After 2-0 start Clovis East takes on a tough Sanger squad
Clovis East coach Ryan Reynolds is certainly pleased with the team’s 2-0 start. And why wouldn’t he? The Timberwolves have combined to outscore Lemoore and Wood of Vacaville 84-0 to begin the season behind a stout defense and a dangerous rushing attack.
The offense has rushed for 780 yards on 88 carries, an 8.8 average led by Jo’Nation Dejohnette (243 yards, 4 TDs), AJ Hodgerney (216, 3 TDs) and Chandler Hamilton (207, 3 TDs). Quarterback Sean Kelly rushed four times for 101 yards and a touchdown in the win over Wood.
“We have some mistakes to fix but I like the idea we can overcome mistakes and be competitive and win football games,” Reynolds said after Wednesday’s practice.
However, a tough opponent looms large as Clovis East welcomes Sanger to Lamonica Stadium on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The Apaches lost 38-31 to Hanford last week after blowing out Reedley 49-6 in Week 1.
“They’re a physical, tough matchup,” Reynolds said of Sanger. “It reminds of the NFL when the Steelers play the Ravens. It’s going to be one of those games. We have to make sure it’s controlled aggression and we do our jobs.”
Last year Clovis East beat Sanger 14-8 at Tom Flores Stadium.
