First pitch, 6pm
Top 1st (0-0):
Senior Ryan Vance gets the start for CN. Broncos in light blue tops with white pants. Redwood with navy on top, gray pants.
Vance works around a leadoff walk to retire the next three Rangers in order. One strikeout.
Bottom 1st (3-0 CN):
Ethan Garcia on the mound for Redwood.
Columbia commit Cole Fellows leading off for CN. Fouls off first two pitches and then HBP.
Ryan Vance singles on a hit & run. Making it first and second, nobody out.
Rees Kent singles up the middle. It’s 2-0 Broncos early. He takes second on the throw home from centerfield.
Hunter Jansen lines a fastball to right field, driving in Kent. Broncos absolutely rolling through the lineup. 3-0 with two on and one out.
Tough end to the inning. Isaiah Munoz smokes a ball to right-center field, but it’s ran down and caught. Whoops, runners took off like there were two outs which leads to a double play. Two hits that inning for CN, but about five hard hit balls.
Top 2nd (3-1 CN):
Walk and double to lead off the second for Redwood. The double courtesy of Silas Beltran. Rangers need runs because I don’t think CN stops scoring tonight.
Derrick Cruz–an animal behind the dish, eating up balls in the dirt. The junior is a D1 guy when it’s all said and done.
Sac fly from Julius Martinez cuts CN deficit to 3-1. Rangers have first and third with two outs. Top of the order up.
Ryan Vance K’s Daryl Tillman to the end inning on a check swing.
Bottom 2nd (6-1 CN):
Ivan Ruiz plunked on the elbow. That doesn’t feel good. Leadoff man on.
Ayden Thissen walks. Back to lead off man (Fellows) with two on, nobody out.
Fellows, P-6. (1 out)
Vance, P-4. (2 outs)
Wild pitch. Ruiz scores. 4-1 Broncos with Rees Kent at bat.
And it’s Kent who comes through. He lines a double down the third base line, scoring Thissen. 5-1 Broncos. And as I’m typing, it’s our man Derrick Cruz who mashes a double off the CF fence. Kent scores. Broncos up 6-1 and rolling.
This is a team Clovis North beat 21-4 a handful of days ago. This one could get out of hand again.
Top 3rd (6-1 CN):
After a leadoff hit, Vance starts a pretty 1-6-3 double play. Next pitch goes F-9. Eight pitch inning for the senior.
Bottom 3rd (6-1 CN):
Saint Mary’s commit Isaiah Munoz walks to open the third. E-6 leads Ivan Ruiz to get on base. Ayden Thissen with a beautiful drag for a single loads the bases. CN at the top of the order. Uh oh.
Fellows lines a ball right at the centerfielder for out #1. No tag from third base. Anywhere else, that could clear the bases. Ryan Vance pops up to first baseman for out #2.
Munoz tries to score after wild pitch, but thrown out. Ethan Garcia, somehow, out of trouble.
Top 4th (6-1 CN):
Another quick inning of work for Ryan Vance. A strikeout, a pop up, and a ground out. Munoz with a nice play deep in the six hole on the ground out. Blake King scoops it to get out of the inning.
Bottom 4th (8-1 CN):
Joey Rico now in the game for Redwood. He’ll get Saint Mary’s signee Rees Kent right out of the gate…..
…… aaaaaaand see ya. Kent drives a ball over the right field fence for a HR. He’s 3-3 tonight, just a triple away from a cycle.
Isaiah Munoz ground rule double scores Derrick Cruz. 8-1 CN. Coca-Cola Classic has a ten-run rule after five innings. We might be getting into that territory. CN with bases loaded, one outs.
Redwood limits the damage. Heading to the 5th.
Top 5th (8-1 CN):
So, my wifi hotspot guy is leaving the booth. Bare with me the rest of the way. I can’t guarantee much else.
Let me sneak in this last one… Vance one pitch, one out to start the inning. The senior still going strong.
Bottom 5th (8-1 CN):
REES KENT. A line drive down the left field line that rolls to the fence. He’s thinking triple (for the cycle) all the way out of the box. Thrown out by just a step trying to take third. Still, 4-4 on the day. Have a night.
Top 6th (8-1 CN):
Vance back out there for the 6th. Been a horse so far tonight. Only two hits given up.
He strikes out the side. That’s 7Ks. Dominant performance for a dude who could end up as CN’s ace when TRAC play rolls around.
Bottom 6th (8-1 CN):
Nothing going for CN outside of Chase Pommenville walk. Going to the 7th.
Top 7th (8-2 CN):
Collin DeBorde in for the Broncos, relieving Ryan Vance. Vance’s final line: 6ip, 3 hits, 7Ks.
It’s 8-2 after a couple walks and errors by CN. Two on, one out for the Rangers.
DeBorde K. Two outs.
DeBorde K. Clovis North wins 8-2.
