Game Updates – Buchanan vs Tulare Western, 4/6

Top 7th (9-0 BHS)

Bears win 9-0. O’Toole with a K to end it.

Quick two outs follow.

Colton O’Toole back out for his second inning of work. Walks the leadoff man.

Bottom 6th (9-0 BHS)

Wild pitch scores both Ybarra and Acosta. 9-0. Bears have 13 hits tonight.

JP Acosta 2RBI single. Smoked up the middle. Game has been blown open. 7-0.

Bases loaded after Sky Collins HBP and Corbin Ybarra reaches on E-4.

Temo Becerra single to right field scores Wallace. It’s 5-0. Becerra advances to second on a wild pitch.

Evan Wallace and Drew Smith back-to-back hits to start the inning. They’re both 3-3 tonight. Smith thrown out trying to take second base.

BJ Rodriguez pitching now for TW.

Top 6th (4-0 BHS)

O’Toole gives up one hit to Jack Anker, but that’s all in the 6th. Quick pace tonight, but a dull environment here at Buchanan.

One pitch, one out as he retires BJ Rodriguez on a ground ball. 3U in the scorebook.

Long Beach State commit Colton O’Toole takes over on the mound for Buchanan.

Bottom 5th (4-0 BHS)

JP Acosta single to lead off the 5th. Hard ground ball through the right side of the infield. He advances to second base after reading a ball in the dirt. Bears unable to take advantage.

Top 5th (4-0 BHS)

Watson retires the next three in order, including two strikeouts. Buchanan bullpen was active so that might be his last pitch of the night. 5 IP, 6 Ks, 2 hits.

Watson walks the leadoff man. This is the most he’s been stretched out so far this season. We’ll see how long Coach Fontes sticks with him.

Bottom 4th (4-0 BHS)

Temo Becerra sac fly makes it 4-0.

Drew Smith mashes a double to the wall, scoring Wallace. 3-0. Smith takes third base on throwing error.

Jett Ruby leadoff triple to start the inning. Evan Wallace single up the middle makes it 2-0 Bears.

Freshman lefty Justin Cuellar now on the bump for TW.

Top 4th (1-0 BHS)

Watson retires the side in order. One hit surrendered so far tonight for Watson… a single by JT Torrez.

Bottom 3rd (1-0 BHS)

JP Acosta and Austin Young with hard contact, but right at both defenders for two quick outs.

Corral doing a nice job of throwing all pitches for strikes. Most Buchanan hitters way out in front of slower-than-used-to fastball.

Max Bernal singles, but gets thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning.

Top 3rd (1-0 BHS)

Austin Watson LOCKED in. Strikes out the side and he’s fired up coming off the field. That’s his fourth K of the night.

Bottom 2nd (1-0 BHS)

Nothing going for Buchanan after back-to-back hits from Evan Wallace and Drew Smith.

Top 2nd (1-0 BHS)

Walk to lead off the inning. Fly out and 5-4-3 double play ends in the inning. Pretty. Drew Smith, to Ruby, to Bernal.

Bottom 1st (1-0 BHS)

James Corral on the mound for TW. Not hard throwing. Able to get two left-handed roll overs to start the game. Bears are going to have to stay middle tonight.

Austin Young walks with two outs.

Bernal laces a ground ball that goes off of the second baseman. Ball rolls deep down the right field line. Young comes around to score for Buchanan. It’s 1-0 Bears.

Top 1st (0-0)

Watson’s fastball working early. 4-3 to start the game, followed by a K. Fresno State signee Jack Anker grounds out for out #3. First pitch strike on first three hitters. Watson locked in early on for state-ranked Bears.

It will be Buchanan Jr. Austin Watson getting the start for Buchanan. Opposing him is James Corral for TW.

First pitch, 6pm
